Tuesday, 19 August – training

Great afternoon for training, plenty of sunlight, nice and dry, not exactly warm but not cold either.

Jigsaw was at training again as was Keiran and Matthew which gave us a total of 12 players. I had Tim, Dave and Marty helping out which made things a lot easier.

We went for a bit of a run around the oval to start training which some players seemed to like but others weren’t as happy. Then we got straight into a couple of handball and kicking drills. I’m actually really happy with the skill level, some of the boys are excellent at handballing, marking and kicking. Not everyone is at the same level but I can see improvement in every player.

Round 9 v Booragoon – Sunday, 17 August

Overcast conditions for today’s game but not too cold or windy. We were struggling a bit for numbers with the following players missing, Ethan (sick), Kevin (away) and Alex (?). Also Jensen wasn’t feeling 100%. Luckily Dylan’s brother Keiran was at the game with all of his football gear, so he happily joined in.

Steve once again took on the umpiring duties, controlling half of the ground while the Booragoon coach looked after the other half. The game was pretty tough and hard with lots of packs forming pretty regularly but they both did a good job keeping control and sharing the free kicks around to keep everyone involved.

Tuesday, 12 August – training

Conditions for training were overcast (looking like rain), windy and cold but not freezing.  We only had 10 players from the Super 8s team plus Dylan’s brother Keiran and a new player “Jigsaw”, which gave us a grand total of 12 players.

Jigsaw is a friend of Jeremy and Dylan and is pretty new to football.  Hopefully he’ll like playing with us and come back next season.

We had heaps of helpers at training – Steve, Adam, Tim, Marty, Adrian and Blake.  This meant we could have one parent (or older brother) for two players.

Round 8 v Piara Waters (Pirates) – Sunday, 10 August

The conditions were great, not too cold, nice and sunny and a 10:15am start time.  Piara Waters is a new club this season so it was the first time I’d been to their home ground and I must admit it looked fantastic.

Jensen missed the game because he was sick.  Alex was a no show and I haven’t heard from him yet so I’m not sure what the problem was.  Dylan arrived about half way through the first quarter.  Everyone else was there on time and ready to go.

There was a howling wind to one end of the ground and Steve was quick to let the opposition coach know that was the end we would be kicking to in the first quarter.  We did borrow a Piara Waters player in the first quarter because we only had 11 players to start the game and I think they had about 14 players.

Tuesday, 5 August – training

Fantastic weather for training, dry, sunny and warm – I was even contemplating wearing shorts to training.

Good numbers at training with 16 players.  The more players we get to training usually means more parents which means more assistance for Steve and I (that’s a good thing).

Something I’ve noticed is that the kids seem to be enjoying training which motivates me to lift my game and want to deliver a good training session.

I was a bit sad to hear from Amelie’s mum that Amelie had lost a bit of interest in football and had decided to sit out the remainder of the  season.  Amelie’s mum wanted to emphasize that everyone had treated Amelie well and she had enjoyed herself (and it had nothing to do with the poor coaching) and wished the team all the best for the remainder of the season.  In my opinion Amelie had done so well and was getting better and better all the time.  She had done a great job as the only girl fitting into a team full of boys and adapting to a sport she had never played before.  I wish Amelie all the best and who knows she may come back next season.

Round 7 v Canning Vale – Sunday, 3 August

It was a very cold morning and a very early morning because we had a 7:50am start. The sun was out which was good but the oval was very soft and muddy.

Unfortunately Steve and Nathan were unable to make the game but everyone else was at the game which gave us 13 players. Kobe went to the wrong venue but still got to the game during the first quarter, so he didn’t miss much.

I thought this was our best game of the season, everyone contributed and the skill level (despite the ground conditions) was excellent. The kids have been training hard all season and they’re starting to get some reward for effort now. Also the parent support was top shelf as usual, I only ever hear encouragement and positive comments coming from the sidelines which is the way to go.

As for the players I thought Cambell had a sensational game, it didn’t matter where he played he was always getting the ball. He kicked a couple of goals and ran the ball really well weaving his way through the packs. Cambell even dived (horizontal to the ground) across an opposition player’s foot to stop him kicking a goal.

ownCloud 7

I have an updated article regarding ownCloud – ownCloud 9

05/08/2014 – I’ve just upgraded to version 7.0.1

Access, sync and share your data on across all of your devices. This is a great piece of open source software. I’m currently running ownCloud 7 on my own server. I can upload documents, video, photos and music and then get access to it anywhere. I can also upload my contacts, website bookmarks, calendar appointments and task lists. Because it’s running on my own server and the software is free (as in freedom ) I don’t have any privacy concerns.

Official website –http://owncloud.org/

If you are installing on Ubuntu just follow these instructions:
http://software.opensuse.org/download/package?project=isv:ownCloud:community&package=owncloud

Here is a list of the some useful Apps I’ve installed with ownCloud:

Tasks Enhanced
Music
News

If you don’t want to run your own server there are ownCloud providers.

If you’re looking for an alternative to Dropbox, Flickr, Google etc. that is Open Source and totally free software give ownCloud a try.
